Eligbility For SNAP
Your household must meet certain requirements to be eligible for SNAP and receive benefits. If your State agency determines that you are eligible to receive SNAP benefits, you will receive benefits back to the date you submitted your application. Visit the Pre screening tool to see if you qualify: https://www.snap-step1.usda.gov/fns/

What Happens After You Apply
In most cases it takes 30 day to processs your application. But.. during the 30 days you must complete an eligibility interview and give proof (verification) of the information you provided. The interview is typically completed over the telephone or in-person. If you are found eligible, you will receive benefits based on the date you submitted your application.

How Long Can I Receive SNAP For?
If you are found eligible, you will receive a notice that tells you how long you will receive SNAP benefits for; this is called your certification period. Before your certification period ends, you will receive another notice that says you must recertify to continue receiving benefits. Your local SNAP office will provide you with information about how to recertify.

SNAP Work Requirements
People must meet work requirements to be eligible for SNAP. These work requirements include:
Registering for work;
Not voluntarily quitting a job or reducing hours;
Taking a job if offered; and
Participating in employment and training programs, if assigned by the State.

Failure to comply with these requirements can result in disqualification from the Program.

In addition, able bodied adults without dependents are required to work or participate in a work program for at least 20 hours per week in order to receive SNAP benefits for more than 3 months in a 36-month period.

Some special groups may not be subject to these requirements including:
Children;
Seniors;
Pregnant women; and
People who are exempt for physical or mental health reasons.

    I have called several times and each time the recorder on the telephone said this: due to call volume all staff members are busy with other callers you will need to call back. I resume to call back each day and so forth. I have even sent email and still can't get any response. I did my application on line and have a confirmation number. I can't get any assistance concerning my request. I received a letter in the mail saying that I had not done what I needed to do for the application being on if not before time allowed. That I missed it. Which I did not due to doing what was asked of me. Also, I received another letter said I was approved. The third letter this time said it's pending. Which I didn't get food stamps on my card. I still can't get any response.

    I submitted my application like always they call me and tell me they didn't get it. I submit another one and now I been calling and leaving emails for my case worker and my supervisor for almost a month now and I went face to face just to still have no success. I know I did my part can y'all do your job now ..I wish they had left my case where it was.

    I haven’t had an appointment yet. I waited around for calls, never got them, requested a supervisor multiple times, never got one to call. Me and my kids had Covid so I couldn’t go up to the office so I had no choice but to keep calling and getting no call backs.

    Hello. I have been trying to reach someone several times in November and December including January about my case. I turned in all my paper work that was asked of me. I finally got someone on the phone. I was told that I must re-certify because my case is closed. I really feel that it's not fair if I did my part and my case worker didn't do hers.

    To whom it may concern my case has been denied due to failure of interview. I was scheduled to have a phone interview but my caseworker failed to call so how is my case being denied when I haven’t received a call.
