Eligbility For SNAP
Your household must meet certain requirements to be eligible for SNAP and receive benefits. If your State agency determines that you are eligible to receive SNAP benefits, you will receive benefits back to the date you submitted your application. Visit the Pre screening tool to see if you qualify: https://www.snap-step1.usda.gov/fns/

What Happens After You Apply
In most cases it takes 30 day to processs your application. But.. during the 30 days you must complete an eligibility interview and give proof (verification) of the information you provided. The interview is typically completed over the telephone or in-person. If you are found eligible, you will receive benefits based on the date you submitted your application.

How Long Can I Receive SNAP For?
If you are found eligible, you will receive a notice that tells you how long you will receive SNAP benefits for; this is called your certification period. Before your certification period ends, you will receive another notice that says you must recertify to continue receiving benefits. Your local SNAP office will provide you with information about how to recertify.

SNAP Work Requirements
People must meet work requirements to be eligible for SNAP. These work requirements include:
Registering for work;
Not voluntarily quitting a job or reducing hours;
Taking a job if offered; and
Participating in employment and training programs, if assigned by the State.

Failure to comply with these requirements can result in disqualification from the Program.

In addition, able bodied adults without dependents are required to work or participate in a work program for at least 20 hours per week in order to receive SNAP benefits for more than 3 months in a 36-month period.

Some special groups may not be subject to these requirements including:
Children;
Seniors;
Pregnant women; and
People who are exempt for physical or mental health reasons.

    Benefits stopped for no reason, called as requested multiple times with waiting in line just to get hung up on. Can not leave messages as the machines says it’s always full. No one answers emails as well. Is anyone even at that office or competent enough to follow their own rules and procedures? What is going on Hawaii?

    Confused why this place is up and running and confused if they do anything. Submitted my application weeks ago with no response, over the last week I’ve called three times to wait hours before it just hangs up. Worst service from literally anywhere in the world ever.

    This is about th 17th time Polani Processing center has failed me. They have continued to be rude, condescending, out of line, broken their own rules to the point where attorneys had to be involved. Guess that needs to happen again! Failure to load a SNAP card and leave someone with out food with no provocation is really, REALLY out of line! Refusing to answer the phone that you asked the person to call five or more times is also out of line. Refusing to respond, employee was asked what her name was and refused. Demanding that I sit in your lobby for over 5 3/4 of an hour is also out it line! Having me return the next day for a 4.5 hour wait. Also bungling your own letters and then cutting benefits because you don’t have it together unacceptable.

    I guess I'm fortunate to have positive reviews of my experience with Pohulani. I really don't know time frame of my processing, but, this time around I kinda let it go. Submitted my app online, and concentrated on other options to make my ends meet personally. Before I knew it, I think 1 month or so, I checked my account and I was surprised to see a deposit of 2 months. So my advice would be, easier said then done, but, be patient and rid self of entitlement issues. Trust me, I been there.

    I have waited on hold multiple days now for the hour it lets it ring just to be met with a voicemail that is full and won’t let you leave one. This is infuriating. Simply trying to email my identification and required documents and the email won’t send.
